ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has unveiled the comprehensive polling schemes for the upcoming General Elections in 2024, providing insights into the extensive network of polling stations across the country. According to the released data, a total of 90,675 polling stations are set to be established nationwide to facilitate the electoral process.
Of these polling stations, 25,320 are designated for male voters, while 23,952 are allocated for female voters. Additionally, 41,403 joint polling stations will be established to accommodate both male and female voters, ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process.
Breaking down the distribution, the highest number of polling stations, totaling 50,944, is planned for the province of Punjab. Sindh will have 19,006 polling stations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see 15,697, and Balochistan will have 5,028 polling stations.
The Election Commission of Pakistan’s data further reveals that a total of 276,398 polling booths will be arranged across the country. Out of these, 128,846 booths will be specifically designated for women, while 147,552 booths will cater to male voters.
This announcement comes after the successful execution of a mock exercise of the Election Management System (EMS) on an experimental basis. The ECP reported that the presiding officers, on the whole, managed to deliver satisfactory results during the exercise.
However, minor connectivity challenges were experienced at certain points, affecting the transmission of results to some presiding officers. The Election Commission assured the public that these challenges are being promptly addressed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the EMS.
As Pakistan gears up for the upcoming elections, the meticulous planning and arrangements by the ECP aim to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process, fostering confidence among voters and stakeholders alike.
