ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has established the Election Monitoring and Control Centre (EMCC) for the upcoming general election in 2024.
The EMCC aims to facilitate the general public, providing a platform for contact and the filing of complaints related to the election process, according to a spokesperson from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The center is designed to ensure that complaints are addressed promptly, with the election commission taking swift action in response.
Control Rooms have also been set up at provincial, divisional, and district levels, in addition to the election commission secretariat in Islamabad.
Initially, the EMCC will operate from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. However, as the election date approaches, the center will transition to working round-the-clock from mid-January 2024 until the completion of the election results on February 8.
The control center is equipped with facilities for monitoring social media and electronic media, as stated by the spokesperson. Individuals can file their complaints at [email protected].
Candidates have already submitted their nomination papers in the first phase of the election schedule, with the ongoing process of scrutinizing the nomination papers currently underway as of December 24.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi Rearrested Outside Adiala Jail
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has been rearrested outside Adiala Jail.
Details reveal that Punjab police rearrested Shah Mahmood Qureshi after he was released on bail from Adiala Jail in a cipher case.
His release followed a plea by the police to end the 15-day detention orders for the former foreign minister under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Shah Mahmood Qureshi had been initially arrested by RA Bazaar police in connection with a General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case.
Yesterday, Qureshi was detained in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for 15 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The cipher case revolves around a piece of paper that Imran Khan waved at a public rally on March 27, 2022, ahead of a vote of confidence. Imran Khan claimed the cipher was ‘evidence’ of an “international conspiracy” to topple his government, pointing fingers at the US.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was the foreign minister at the time, was indicted in the case on October 23. The case originated after Imran Khan’s then-principal secretary, Azam Khan, alleged that the former PM used a US cipher for ‘political gains’ and to avert a no-confidence motion against him.
