ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) more time to submit records related to the party’s intra-party elections. The hearing was then adjourned until October 2.
During the hearing, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan requested 10 days to provide the necessary documents. An ECP member responded positively, noting that it was good to hear him say, “God willing, you will submit the record.”
The commission inquired where the intra-party elections were held, to which Gohar replied that elections were conducted in all four provinces and Islamabad. A member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cautioned Gohar that if the commission did not recognize the intra-party elections, the party could face a five-year ban under the Elections Act.
When asked about potential consequences for not holding intra-party elections, Barrister Gohar assured the commission of full cooperation.
After the hearing, Gohar told the media that PTI held successful intra-party elections across all provinces and Islamabad, electing key positions such as chairman, secretary general, and four provincial presidents. He emphasized that no objections had been raised regarding the elections.
Gohar also mentioned that the ECP had asked constitutional and legal questions in its letter but had not voiced any objections.
He pointed out that the ECP had previously submitted documents in the reserved seats case and stated that its comments about PTI’s structure were incorrect. Gohar further noted that PTI had submitted responses to the ECP’s questions to the Supreme Court.
