ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and security of the electoral process for the upcoming general elections in 2024. Approval has been granted for the printing of 250 million ballots, and these will feature watermarks to enhance security measures.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Election Commission, reflecting the commitment to conducting transparent and fair elections.
The responsibility for printing the ballot papers has been entrusted to three printing corporations, and the meticulous planning includes heightened security measures.
The secure transportation of the ballots from the printing machines to designated officials is a key focus, underscoring the ECP’s dedication to preventing any compromises in the electoral materials.
This move addresses concerns related to the security and authenticity of the ballots, aiming to instill confidence in the electoral process. With the general elections approaching, the Election Commission is taking proactive measures to ensure that every aspect of the electoral process adheres to the highest standards.
In addition to focusing on security, the ECP has also urged political parties to comply with gender representation requirements. According to Section 206 of the Elections Act, 2017, political parties are mandated to ensure a five percent representation of women candidates in general seats.
The ECP has called on all political parties to submit the list of their male and female candidates for general seats within a specified timeframe.
These efforts underscore the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting inclusive, transparent, and credible elections, contributing to the democratic process in Pakistan.
