PESHAWAR — Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Tuesday launched ‘Khyber Pass’, a groundbreaking digital identity system aimed at revolutionizing public service delivery across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The formal launch ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by key dignitaries including Special Assistant on IT Shafqat Ayaz, cabinet members, provincial assembly lawmakers, and senior officials.
‘Khyber Pass’ is Pakistan’s first digital identity initiative based on a QR code mechanism, designed to unify citizens’ identity across all public services. Integrated with NADRA and other government databases, the system allows residents to access their identity information and a wide range of government services online — without repeatedly submitting personal details.
“This is a major step toward transparent, efficient, and citizen-focused governance,” CM Gandapur said.
Through a single digital account and QR code, residents will be able to access services such as health, education, taxation, licensing, and property records — eliminating the need for multiple forms or office visits. Initially, three services have been activated on the platform, with more — including the Sehat Card — to follow soon.
The Chief Minister hailed the launch as a “revolutionary shift” in public service delivery, aligned with Chairman Imran Khan’s vision of Digital Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He highlighted early successes of the government’s digital reforms:
- Digitised e-challan system saved nearly Rs. 3 billion
- Monitoring of Sehat Card helped slash costs by Rs. 13 billion, despite rising service usage
- The provincial treasury has grown from near-empty to Rs. 190 billion
Gandapur emphasized the government’s continued commitment to digitisation, meritocracy, and transparency, calling Khyber Pass a cornerstone of that vision.
“We aim to bring services directly to the people’s doorsteps. With Khyber Pass, we’re putting that promise into action,” he said.
The CM also reaffirmed support for strengthening the IT department and accelerating the province’s digital transformation journey, expressing confidence that the targets set by his government will be met ahead of time.
