Brother of Shehbaz Gill files complaint with IHC against judge Zeba Chaudhry for giving remand

Yaseen Gill filed his complaint with the Islamabad High Court chief justice and the member of the Court’s Inspection Team

ISLAMABAD: Yaseen Gill, brother of Shahbaz Gill has filed a complaint with the Islamabad High Court against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry for giving remand of Shehbaz Gill.

Yaseen Gill filed his complaint with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) chief justice and the member of the Court’s Inspection Team (MIT).

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had earlier warned the ADSJ Zeba Chaudhry of consequences during his speech in PTI’s rally at F-9 Park in Islamabad.

Kohsar police arrested Mr Gill on August 9 and the judicial magistrate remanded his custody to police till August 12 in a sedition case.

Advocate General Islamabad Barrister Jahangir Khan Jadoon filed a revision petition before Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Adnan which was dismissed.

However, when the matter was taken to the IHC, acting IHC Chief Justice sent the case back to the sessions court with order to decide the petition in accordance with the law.

ADSJ Zeba Chaudhry in a subsequent hearing granted two days’ remand of Shehbaz Gill to the police and her order was criticised in social media and the PTI chairman censured the judge and the police authorities in his public speeches.

Interestingly, the IHC acting chief justice disposing of the petition related to Mr Gill’s remand had also upheld the order of ADSJ Chaudhry.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan is facing a contempt of court case for threatening judge Zeba Chaudhry while a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) had also been registered against him.

In the contempt of court proceedings, Islamabad High Court has summoned Imran Khan on August 31 while the case has been referred to the chief justice of IHC to constitute a full-bench to hear the case.
