Barrister Gohar has clinched an uncontested victory, securing his position as the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the party’s intra-party elections. The final list of candidates, disclosed by the party on Thursday, underscores Barrister Gohar as the solitary contender for the chairman’s role, ensuring an unchallenged outcome. The formal confirmation of his election is slated to occur after the voting, scheduled for March 3, taking place in the party’s central and provincial secretariats.
In addition to Barrister Gohar’s unopposed victory, four other candidates have also emerged triumphant in their respective roles without facing any competition. These include Omar Ayub as Secretary General, Yasmin Rashid as Punjab President, Haleem Adil Sheikh as Sindh President, and Ali Amin Gandapur as KP President.
Nevertheless, the leadership contest for Balochistan introduces three panels led by Amin Khan Jogazai, Dawood Shah, and Munir Ahmad Baloch, injecting a competitive element into the intra-party elections.
This decision to conduct intra-party elections anew stems from the annulment of the previous polls by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The nullification led to PTI candidates participating as independent candidates in the general election, as they were unable to utilize the party’s symbol, the bat.
The recurrence of these internal elections highlights PTI’s commitment to a fair and transparent democratic process, paving the way for the selection of key party leaders through a renewed electoral mandate.
