ISLAMABAD: PTI President and former Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi obtained bail from an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday.
Elahi had been in custody over his alleged involvement in an attack on the Judicial Complex in Islamabad in March of this year. It incident occurred when PTI chairman Imran Khan was appearing in a hearing in the court.
Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain of the Anti-Terrorism Court approved bail for Parvez Elahi. Judge directed Elahi to furnish surety bonds valued at Rs 20,000.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor informed the judge that Elahi’s arrest had been based on information from an anonymous source. He also argued that the charges outlined in the FIR did not permit bail to be granted.
Following the prosecutor’s arguments, Judge Zulqurnain began delivering his verdict in an open court.
The judge determined that Elahi had not even been named as a suspect in the FIR related to the case for which he had been apprehended.
Furthermore, he noted that the investigation had failed to produce any incriminating evidence during Elahi’s three-day detention.
Consequently, Judge Zulqurnain ordered Elahi’s release on bail, provided he furnished the required surety bonds.
