RAWALPINDI: On Tuesday, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) made a significant ruling in the ongoing legal proceedings involving Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
The court decided to discharge Bushra Bibi from twelve cases related to the riots that occurred on May 9. This decision came after the ATC evaluated arguments from both the defense and prosecution sides.
The police had initially sought a physical remand for Bushra Bibi, requesting the court to allow them to hold her in custody for further investigation into the May 9 riots. However, the ATC rejected this request.
The court maintained that physical remand could not be granted unless the accused is physically presented before the court.
This ruling led to the discharge of Bushra Bibi from the cases related to the riots, which was a notable outcome in the ongoing legal drama surrounding her.
Bushra Bibi was represented in court by Salman Safdar, while the investigation officers responsible for the May 9 cases also made their appearance before the court.
After considering the arguments put forth by both the defense counsel and the prosecution, ATC Judge Malik Aijaz Asif decided to discharge Bushra Bibi, effectively clearing her from the specific charges related to the riots.
In a related development, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a new reference in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan and his wife.
This reference was submitted to an accountability court in Islamabad by Investigating Officer Mohsin Haroon and Case Officer Waqar Hassan.
The new allegations against the couple involve the purchase and subsequent sale of a jewelry set valued at Rs75 million, which they allegedly acquired from the Toshakhana.
The reference alleges that the couple misused the gifts received from foreign dignitaries during their tenure in office.
This new development follows the recent judicial custody remand of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The couple remains under scrutiny for their handling of gifts received during their time in office, further complicating their legal situation.
