NA Seat
SHAHEED BENAZIRABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Aseefa Bhutto Zardari officially entered the political fray by filing her nomination papers for the upcoming by-election on the National Assembly seat, NA-207. This seat was left vacant by her father, Asif Ali Zardari, upon his election as the country’s president.
The returning officer confirmed the development, announcing that the by-election in the Shaheed Benazirabad-I (formerly Nawabshah) constituency is scheduled to take place on April 21.
Accompanied by her aunt, Azra Fazal Pechuho, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari submitted her nomination papers in Nawabshah. Pictures of the event were shared on her social media account. Upon emerging from the returning officer’s office, she was greeted with rose petals showered by party workers.
Following Asif Ali Zardari’s elevation to the presidency on March 10, the NA-207 seat became vacant. This constituency has a population of approximately 959,756, with 496,037 registered voters, comprising 268,522 male and 227,515 female voters.
In the general elections held on February 8, Asif Ali Zardari secured a resounding victory in NA-207 Shaheed Benazirabad-I constituency.
He defeated Sardar Sher Muhammad Rind, backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), by a significant margin. According to unofficial results, Zardari garnered 146,989 votes compared to his opponent’s 51,916 votes.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari’s decision to contest the by-election not only marks her formal entry into electoral politics but also signifies the continuation of the Bhutto-Zardari legacy in Pakistani politics. As she steps into the electoral arena, she carries the hopes and aspirations of her party supporters and constituents in NA-207.
