ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has suggested that the expulsion of Sher Afzal Marwat from the party could be revisited. Speaking on Aaj News’ Insight with Amir Zia, Qaiser emphasized that PTI must operate within the legal and constitutional framework.
Discussing the current political landscape, Qaiser described the present government as a “dummy administration” lacking both authority and legitimacy, asserting that PTI has every right to voice its concerns. He noted that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s letter was written out of patriotism, reflecting his apprehensions about the country’s future.
On the matter of Marwat, Qaiser advised caution in his conduct, hinting that his expulsion could potentially be re-evaluated. Regarding Marwat’s controversial rally in Swabi, Qaiser stated that he had been preoccupied and was unaware of the full details.
Addressing the opposition’s position, Qaiser revealed that PTI is nearing the formation of an opposition alliance, with ongoing consultations. He underscored the importance of all political parties outside the government, as well as media, civil society, and other stakeholders, uniting to create a national agenda to resolve the country’s crises.
Government’s Response
Prime Minister’s spokesperson Ikhtiyar Wali Khan dismissed PTI’s actions, stating that the government was unperturbed by the opposition’s moves. He criticized PTI’s political maneuvers, calling past claims about “umpire’s fingers” and electoral fraud mere distractions.
Khan accused Imran Khan of making apocalyptic predictions about Pakistan’s economy after being removed from office, asserting that the PML-N leadership had successfully guided the country away from economic collapse. He further claimed that many within PTI were growing disillusioned with Imran Khan and might shift their support to the government.
Khan pointed to a recent survey showing increasing dissatisfaction with PTI’s leadership, reinforcing his belief that Imran Khan’s influence was diminishing.
This exchange highlights the growing divide between PTI and the ruling coalition, with both sides bracing for a fierce political struggle in the months ahead.
