Arif Alvi
Former President Arif Alvi has been granted 40-day transit bail by the Peshawar High Court (PHC), allowing him time to appear before respective trial courts in several cases registered against him across the country.
The PHC bench, comprising Justice Arshad Ali and Justice Fazal Subhan, also granted 30-day transit bail to his son, Awab Alvi, in similar cases.
During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that multiple cases had been registered against both Arif Alvi and his son in various police stations, raising concerns about potential arrests.
The court was urged to provide relief by restraining the police from arresting them during the transit period.
Speaking to the media outside the court, Arif Alvi criticized actions against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), calling for a reversal of measures taken against the party.
He alleged that democracy and the constitution had been compromised to sideline PTI. “Democracy and the constitution have been destroyed to keep PTI away,” he remarked.
Alvi also addressed the detention of PTI founder Imran Khan, predicting that the situation would resolve within a month and a half.
He claimed, “Give us the government for four hours, and we will bring everything to light.”
The former president, along with Imran Khan and other PTI leaders, has been implicated in cases related to the November 24 protests.
A case registered at the Taxila police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act includes charges of robbery, attempted murder, and inciting violence during the protests.
Other PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Hammad Azhar, and Asad Qaiser, have also been named in the case.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the PHC’s decision provides temporary relief to Arif Alvi and his son, while broader political and legal challenges continue to surround PTI leadership.
