anti-corruption department transferred a ‘missing’ PTI MNA to police

MUZAFFARGARH: On Thursday, the anti-corruption department of the police handed over Moazzam Khan Jatoi, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA who had reportedly been missing since the previous day, to Muzaffargarh police.

According to police sources, the anti-corruption police transferred Jatoi to the Saddar police station after registering a case against him at their department.

PTI had alleged that Jatoi was abducted by unknown individuals. Mahar Javed Hasan, the PTI Muzaffargarh Secretary General, stated that MNA Jatoi went missing after being taken from his residence in Multan on Wednesday.

Following a Supreme Court verdict favoring PTI regarding reserved seats, the former ruling party has accused the government of resorting to coercive tactics to pressure its members into changing their party affiliations.

Last week, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan urged the Supreme Court to intervene in the matter, condemning the alleged abduction of PTI leaders, their family members, and social media activists.

In a significant legal victory for PTI, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the party is eligible for reserved seat allocations. This decision not only clears the path for PTI’s return to Parliament, from which it was excluded following the February 8 polls due to an Election Commission of Pakistan ruling in December 2023, but also intensifies pressure on the coalition government due to changes in the National Assembly’s composition.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced on July 15 that the government plans to ban PTI and file treason charges against its founder Imran Khan and former president Arif Alvi. This move has been criticized by opposition parties as a desperate measure.

“In Islamabad, Tarar informed during a press conference that the PTI and Pakistan cannot co-exist. He also mentioned that the issue would be presented to the federal cabinet and the Supreme Court.

In contrast, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday that the federal government had yet to make a decision to impose a ban on the PTI
