MARDAN: Ameer Haider Hoti, the Senior Vice-President of the Awami National Party (ANP), announced his resignation on Friday following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections, particularly in his constituency and across Mardan district.
In a social media post across his various accounts, Haider Hoti took responsibility for the party’s defeat in all constituencies of his ancestral Mardan district. Expressing heartbreak over the lack of trust from constituents, he resigned from his party office as a gesture of accountability.
Haider Hoti pledged to remain an ordinary party member, continuing to align with the principles of Bacha Khan. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and workers for their loyalty and dedication.
Haider Hoti, the nephew of ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan, previously served as the youngest elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2008 to 2013. He won the National Assembly seat from NA-21 (Mardan-II) in 2018 and NA-9 (Mardan-I) in 2013. Despite winning a provincial assembly seat from PK-53 Mardan-VI in 2018, he vacated it to retain his National Assembly seat.
In the 2024 general election, Haider Hoti contested NA-22-Mardan-2 against PTI Peshawar region president Atif Khan, who ran as an independent candidate. Atif secured 114,748 votes, while Haider Hoti obtained 66,159 votes, resulting in a defeat with a margin of 48,589 votes.
On PK-57-Mardan-5, Haider Hoti contested against PTI independent candidate and former MPA Abdus Salam Afridi. Abdus Salam Afridi secured 38,126 votes, while Haider Hoti obtained 26,497 votes.
It’s noteworthy that the PTI achieved a clean sweep in the 2024 general elections in the Mardan district, securing victories in multiple National Assembly and provincial assembly seats.
