QUETTA: A newly formed six-party opposition alliance, primarily composed of Balochistan-based parties, convened its inaugural formal meeting on Monday to assess the post-election landscape and voiced concerns over the dominance of a specific societal segment potentially leading the nation towards instability.
Following the alliance’s meeting, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman addressed reporters at a press conference, emphasizing that the alliance, alongside other opposition factions, is committed to upholding constitutional supremacy.
Key attendees at the meeting included National Party President Dr. Malik Baloch, Awami National Party leader Asghar Achakzai, Hazara Democratic Party Chairman Abdul Khaliq Hazara, JUI-F Senator Abdul Wasay, and Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party chief Kushal Khan Kakar, among others.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed the alliance’s aspiration for like-minded individuals to unite, stressing that such collaboration hinges on mutual trust. He clarified that the alliance’s formation would not affect JUI-F’s ongoing dialogue with the PTI, which also leads a multi-party opposition coalition.
“We do not view their alliance in a negative light,” Maulana Fazlur Rehman remarked. Responding to queries, he dismissed rumors of JUI-F joining either the federal or Balochistan governments, labeling such claims as misinformation.
Earlier this month, ANP chief Aimal Wali Khan underscored the alliance’s non-electoral focus, stating it seeks to liberate Pakistan from subjugation and empower its populace, rather than targeting specific political outcomes.
