Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have jointly agreed on political cooperation to address what they term ‘political instability’ in the country.
The meeting took place at Bilawal House Lahore, where a PML-N delegation led by Shehbaz Sharif was received by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Both parties are considering the formation of the government at the federal level, in Punjab, and Balochistan.
A joint press statement issued after the meeting stated that both parties have agreed to expand their political cooperation and discussed the overall situation in the country. They pledged to make concerted efforts to overcome what they referred to as ‘political instability.’
The statement further emphasized that the majority of the people have entrusted them with the mandate, and they are committed not to disappoint the Pakistani public. The PML-N, securing the second-highest number of National Assembly seats in the General Elections 2024, has proposed a government formation formula for the PPP.
PPP sources indicated that the proposals from PML-N will be presented in the central executive committee meeting of the party for further consideration.
The PML-N delegation included prominent figures such as Azam Nazir Tarar, Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanveer, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Malik Ahmed Khan, Maryam Aurangzeb, and Sheza Fatima.
Earlier reports suggested that PML-N had offered the presidency, NA speakership, and Senate chairmanship to PPP in exchange for support in the formation of governments at the federal and provincial levels. The ongoing discussions and potential cooperation between these major political parties will play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape in Pakistan.
