The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a fixed cap on tuition fees for MBBS and BDS programs in private medical and dental colleges across Pakistan, aiming to ensure affordability and transparency in medical education.
According to an official notification, the decision follows recommendations made by a committee constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Under the new policy, the maximum annual tuition fee, inclusive of all ancillary charges, has been set at PKR 1.8 million for the 2024โ25 academic session. This fee cap will apply uniformly to all students from first year through final year in private institutions.
For the 2025โ26 academic session, PMDC has approved a revised fee cap of PKR 1.89 million, representing a 5 percent increase. This revised amount will similarly apply to all enrolled students across all academic years, ensuring consistency and preventing differential charging within the same institution.
PMDC further clarified that from 2026 onwards, any future increase in tuition fees will be strictly linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The council stated that detailed notifications outlining the CPI-based adjustment mechanism will be issued separately to guide institutions and students.
The council has directed all private medical and dental colleges to fully comply with the newly announced fee structure. Institutions have been warned that any violation, including charging fees above the prescribed limits or imposing unauthorized charges, will result in penal action under the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council Act, 2022.
PMDC officials emphasized that the decision reflects the governmentโs commitment to regulating medical education and protecting students and their families from excessive financial burden. The move is also intended to promote fairness, accountability, and standardization across private medical and dental institutions nationwide.
Students and parents have welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a significant step toward greater affordability and oversight in Pakistanโs private medical education sector. PMDC reiterated that it will closely monitor compliance to ensure effective implementation of the policy.
