The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain starting tonight across the country’s upper and plain regions, warning that the weather system may continue intermittently until October 7.
According to the PMD, rain is expected in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad and Punjab. The department added that some areas may also witness heavy downpours accompanied by hailstorms, raising concerns over possible disruptions in routine life.
Officials cautioned that the upcoming spell could result in damage to vulnerable infrastructure. Fragile houses, weak walls, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels are particularly at risk. Residents in at-risk areas have been advised to exercise caution and secure their property ahead of the expected showers.
The forecast comes at a time when farmers are engaged in harvesting and other agricultural activities. While the rain may prove beneficial for some crops, experts have warned that excessive or prolonged rainfall could harm standing crops and impact yields in affected regions.
In urban areas, authorities fear that heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, traffic disruption, and localized flooding. The PMD has urged municipal administrations to make contingency arrangements to deal with any situation that may arise.
Meanwhile, emergency response departments have also been advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential incidents caused by heavy rain, including landslides in hilly areas and flooding in low-lying regions.
The PMD emphasized that citizens should stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Motorists in particular have been urged to drive carefully to prevent accidents on slippery roads.
The new rain spell, while expected to bring relief from dry conditions in some areas, is being closely monitored by disaster management authorities due to the risks it poses to life and property.
