Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned recent comments by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in which he called for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.
Terming the remarks “irresponsible” and “indicative of India’s frustration and defence shortcomings,” the Foreign Office (FO) said the statement reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of international norms and the IAEA’s actual mandate.
“This is nothing short of self-imposed nuclear blackmail,” the FO spokesperson said. “The IAEA has no authority over the nuclear weapons of sovereign states, and India’s misrepresentation of its role is a clear attempt to deflect attention from its own internal security failures.”
The spokesperson reaffirmed that Pakistan’s defence posture remains strong and fully capable of deterring any conventional aggression from India.
Citing serious concerns, the FO also highlighted multiple incidents of nuclear material theft and smuggling in India, warning that such breaches pose a direct threat to global nuclear security.
Pakistan urged the international community to take note of India’s provocative rhetoric and growing nuclear irresponsibility in the region.
