Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday. The discussion focused on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities in the Middle East as the US-Israel war on Tehran entered its second month.
During the one-hour call, both leaders addressed regional conflicts, civilian casualties, and the urgent need for trust-building to facilitate peace talks. The conversation underscored Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in regional stability.
Pakistan Condemns Attacks, Offers Support
Prime Minister Shehbaz strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on Iranian territory, including the recent strikes on civilian infrastructure. He expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people during this crisis. The premier also offered condolences for the loss of over 1,900 lives and prayed for the recovery of the injured and displaced.
He highlighted the humanitarian concerns caused by the conflict and emphasized the importance of creating a peaceful environment. “Pakistan stands with Iran in these challenging times,” he said, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Diplomatic Outreach Efforts Highlighted
During the call, Shehbaz briefed President Pezeshkian on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to key stakeholders. He explained the engagement of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir in fostering dialogue with the United States, Gulf nations, and other Islamic countries.
The prime minister emphasized that these efforts aim to build a conducive environment for peace talks. He noted that Pakistan’s initiatives had received strong endorsement from international partners, offering hope for a collective solution to end hostilities.
President Pezeshkian welcomed Pakistan’s proactive role and shared Iran’s perspective on the attacks by Israel. He stressed the importance of building trust to advance mediation and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support.
