Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to engage in a series of high-profile diplomatic meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, scheduled to take place in China next week.
According to diplomatic sources, these meetings aim to strengthen bilateral ties, discuss regional security concerns, and review key global developments, reflecting Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to deepen its international partnerships.
One of the most significant meetings on Prime Minister Sharif’s agenda is with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of issues, including enhancing bilateral cooperation, addressing regional security challenges, and exploring opportunities for collaboration on global matters.
This meeting comes at a time when Pakistan seeks to balance its diplomatic relations with multiple global powers while maintaining strategic partnerships in Eurasia.
In addition to the discussion with President Putin, Prime Minister Sharif will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to review the current state of Pakistan-China relations.
Particular focus will be placed on ongoing projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, including infrastructure development, energy cooperation, and trade facilitation. These discussions are expected to reinforce the long-standing strategic and economic partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Sharif’s SCO schedule also includes bilateral engagements with other key leaders, such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. These meetings aim to further strengthen regional cooperation and explore new avenues for economic, political, and security collaboration.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to arrive in China on August 30 to participate in the summit and the associated bilateral meetings. His engagements at the SCO summit reflect Pakistan’s proactive approach to multilateral diplomacy, emphasizing both regional stability and global partnerships.
Through these interactions, Pakistan aims to enhance its international standing, promote strategic cooperation, and advance economic and security interests in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
