Premier takes oath during Lahore court hearing; cross-examination underway
LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared via video link on Saturday before a Sessions Court in Lahore as part of proceedings in his Rs10 billion defamation lawsuit against PTI founder Imran Khan.
The hearing was presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Yilmaz Ghani. During his virtual appearance, the prime minister formally took an oath to testify in the case, declaring, “I will speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” He also recited the religious oath, adding, “If I conceal anything, may Allah be displeased with me.”
During the cross-examination, Imran Khan’s counsel, Advocate Muhammad Hussain Chotya, asked the premier whether he had a copy of the defamation suit in front of him. PM Shehbaz replied, “No, I do not have a copy of the defamation case with me at the moment.”
The prime minister then requested a short adjournment, stating that his legal team was sending the relevant documents. The court granted a brief recess in response.
PM Shehbaz filed the defamation suit against Imran Khan over what he claims were false and damaging allegations made publicly by the former prime minister. The case continues, with Advocate Chotya currently leading the cross-examination on behalf of the PTI chief.
