In a tweet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to the European Union, in particular to @vonderleyen, President of the @EU Commission, for the announcement of an additional €30 million in humanitarian help for Pakistan.

An updated on-the-ground need assessment of the country’s flood situation led to the earlier revelation that Pakistan and the UN would jointly launch an up-scaled flash appeal in Geneva for $800 million.
Details indicate that a revised Flood Response Plan, developed in close consultation between the Pakistani government and the United Nations (UN), will be presented at the occasion. The plan’s main goal is to help those who are most in need and have been harmed by the severe floods.
While Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ayaz Sadiq, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar will participate electronically, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman will physically attend the event in Geneva.
The UN will be represented by Julien Harneis, the Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization.
UN member states, as well as numerous UN agencies and humanitarian groups active in disaster relief, will attend the summit.
