Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman have reiterated their commitment to accelerating the first wave of Saudi Arabia’s investment worth $5 billion in Pakistan.
In a joint statement issued following their meeting during the Crown Prince’s visit to Saudi Arabia, which marked his first foreign trip since assuming office, both parties emphasized the kingdom’s supportive role in Pakistan’s economy and their mutual desire to strengthen trade and investment ties. They affirmed their dedication to expediting the initial phase of the $5 billion investment package previously discussed.
The Crown Prince conveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his assumption of office and extended warm wishes for his tenure. In response, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s unwavering support and hospitality, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Discussions revolved around strengthening the fraternal ties between the two nations and exploring opportunities for enhanced collaboration across various sectors. Both leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, particularly expressing concern over the situation in Gaza and urging international efforts to halt Israeli military operations and alleviate humanitarian suffering.
Furthermore, they stressed the importance of advancing the peace process in line with relevant resolutions, including the Arab Peace Initiative, aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The need for dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve outstanding issues, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, was also emphasized to ensure regional peace and stability.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an official invitation to the Crown Prince to visit Pakistan, which was accepted. The Pakistani delegation accompanying the Prime Minister to Saudi Arabia included Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
