ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Switzerland today to attend the annual meetings of the World Economic Forum. The WEF meetings are taking place in Davos-Klosters from January 20 to 22, 2026.
PM Shehbaz is leading a high-level Pakistani delegation to the global gathering, where leaders from politics, business, and civil society will discuss pressing international challenges.
The government views the visit as an important opportunity to project Pakistan’s economic outlook and strengthen international engagement.
High-level meetings and dialogue on global issues
The prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with other senior officials. According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, PM Shehbaz will take part in several substantive engagements during the forum. He will participate in the WEF’s Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders session titled “Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World,” where participants will exchange views on rebuilding trust and cooperation in an increasingly polarized international environment.
In addition, the prime minister will meet a range of world leaders and senior executives on the sidelines of the event. These interactions are expected to focus on regional stability, economic cooperation, and emerging global challenges. Officials believe such engagements will help Pakistan strengthen diplomatic ties while also opening new avenues for collaboration.
Pakistan to highlight economic vision and investment potential
The Foreign Office confirmed that PM Shehbaz will also host and chair a Pakistan-specific high-level business roundtable with leading corporate figures. During this session, he will present Pakistan’s investment potential and discuss opportunities across key sectors.
Furthermore, the premier will articulate Pakistan’s perspective on global and regional peace while highlighting the government’s vision, reforms, and achievements in the areas of economy, trade, and investment.
The WEF annual meeting traditionally brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations, and civil society representatives. It provides a global platform to deliberate on contemporary geopolitical, economic, social, and environmental issues. Through his participation, PM Shehbaz aims to reinforce Pakistan’s voice in international forums and promote constructive engagement with global partners.
