Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday. The leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) released a statement confirming that PM Shehbaz highlighted continuous high-level engagements as key to promoting regional stability, security, and growth. He emphasized that constructive dialogue would play a vital role in preventing conflicts and creating opportunities for partnership.
The PMO noted that the two countries share deep fraternal ties rooted in common history, culture, and faith. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through institutional mechanisms and frequent high-level engagement. They also discussed ways to expand cooperation across trade, security, and regional stability.
Commitment to Diplomacy and Regional Peace
In a separate post on X, PM Shehbaz said the leaders agreed that sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement are vital for peace, security, and development in the region. He added that Pakistan and Iran would continue to deepen fraternal ties through regular consultations and institutional cooperation.
The discussions come amid reports that US President Donald Trump is considering options against Iran, including targeted strikes on security forces and leadership positions. This development has raised concerns across the region, making dialogue more urgent.
Earlier on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had also held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. During the call, Dar expressed concern over the evolving situation and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable solution. Both sides agreed to maintain close contact to address regional challenges.
Ongoing Engagement Between Pakistan and Iran
The two leaders have maintained regular communication. They previously spoke on Saturday while Dar was visiting Dubai. During that call, Araghchi thanked Pakistan for its strong support at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Pakistan had voted against the resolution extending the mandate of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, joining six other countries including India and China.
This ongoing engagement highlights Pakistan’s commitment to supporting regional stability and its close partnership with Iran. Both sides agreed that diplomatic channels should remain open to address emerging threats and promote sustainable peace.
