Tribal Jirga
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to undertake a one-day visit to Quetta today to take part in an important jirga aimed at addressing pressing issues facing Balochistan. The high-level meeting is expected to serve as a vital platform for dialogue on regional security, political stability, and socio-economic development in the province.
According to official sources, the jirga will bring together a diverse group of key stakeholders, including top military officials, federal ministers, the Governor of Balochistan, the Chief Minister, and provincial cabinet members. In addition to these senior figures, members of the Balochistan Assembly, tribal elders, and representatives from a broad spectrum of political parties have also been invited to join the deliberations.
The agenda of the jirga is centered on evaluating the current security landscape in Balochistan, which has long grappled with a mix of insurgency-related challenges, cross-border tensions, and local law-and-order issues. Discussions are also expected to touch on political reconciliation efforts, tribal grievances, and strategies for inclusive development.
During the session, the Prime Minister will brief participants on recent government initiatives undertaken in the province, including infrastructure projects, economic uplift schemes, and social welfare programs. He is also likely to share insights into the federal governmentโs future roadmap for Balochistan, with a focus on ensuring peace, prosperity, and political integration.
This jirga is being viewed as part of a broader national initiative to strengthen federal-provincial coordination, particularly in regions affected by unrest and underdevelopment. It underscores the government’s intent to prioritize Balochistanโs unique concerns through sustained dialogue, inclusive policymaking, and on-ground engagement with local leadership.
The Prime Minister’s presence at the jirga also signals the federal government’s recognition of the need for tribal input and consensus-building in addressing complex challenges. By bringing together civil and military leadership with community voices, the government hopes to chart a more stable and development-oriented path forward for Balochistan.
