Google has officially launched its new Pixel 10 smartphones, emphasizing advanced artificial intelligence capabilities as the company aims to strengthen its position in the competitive AI-assistant market.
The launch event, held in Brooklyn and hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon, combined product reveals with entertainment from The Jonas Brothers and basketball star Stephen Curry. Fallon humorously described the event as โlike a Taylor Swift announcement for nerds,โ highlighting the blend of celebrity and tech spectacle.
The new product lineup includes a foldable Pixel phone, an upgraded Pixel smartwatch, and AI-integrated earbuds, all designed to work seamlessly together. According to Google product manager Tyler Kugler, the Pixel series provides a premier way for users to experience the latest AI innovations from Google.
Despite capturing only a small portion of the high-end smartphone market dominated by Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi, Google leverages its Pixel hardware to demonstrate the capabilities of its Android operating system and Gemini AI assistant.
Forrester principal analyst Thomas Husson noted that the Pixel was originally intended to showcase technological innovation and limit Android fragmentation. Today, the Pixel lineup continues to serve as a laboratory for AI, promoting the use of Googleโs platform by other handset makers while countering Appleโs integrated ecosystem approach.
The Gemini AI assistant in the new phones can analyze what users see through the camera, provide information about locations or objects, and even suggest photography tips.
The Pixel Watch 4, redesigned for this launch, includes advanced fitness tracking and wrist-based AI commands. Users can track specific activities such as walking, cycling, or tennis, while Gemini AI detects the mood of the speaker and adjusts its responses accordingly. Additionally, AI enhancements power a 100x telephoto lens in the Pixel cameras.
Pixel 10 pricing starts at $799, with the premium Pixel Pro Fold model starting at $1,799. The launch signals Googleโs continued investment in AI-driven devices and its strategic effort to showcase integrated hardware, software, and AI capabilities within its ecosystem.
