Pakistan International Airlines actively works to expand its fleet and advance its revival strategy. Arif Habib, chairman of the Arif Habib Consortium for PIA, shares these ambitious plans with industrialists. He speaks at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry meeting on Thursday.
Habib states that PIA owns 30 aircraft right now. Eighteen of them fly regularly, while five to six undergo repairs. The airline makes strong efforts to return those planes to service. This step boosts the active fleet to 26 aircraft soon. Moreover, leaders aim for a long-term goal of 60 planes in total.
Fleet Expansion Drives PIA Revival
Habib expresses pride in representing the business community at the government level. He informs policymakers about the daily challenges businesses face. Pakistanโs economy shows clear signs of stabilization this fiscal year. Revenues rise, officials control expenditures well, and debt servicing improves. Still, leaders must lower production costs for long-term growth.
High electricity tariffs continue due to capacity charges and low consumption. However, full use of the transmission system over 22,000 megawatts cuts prices by Rs10 to Rs12 per unit. This change demands greater power usage nationwide.
Business Leaders Push for Unity and Efficiency
Habib urges the business community to rise above political affiliations. He wants them to speak in one strong voice. Such unity compels authorities to address their concerns promptly. He highlights information technology, agriculture, and mining as key sectors. These areas help Pakistan overcome economic challenges and achieve steady growth.
In addition, Abad Chairperson Hasan Bakhshi suggests businesses create a consortium. They take charge of loss-making public entities such as the Water Board, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and Sindh Building Control Authority. Businesses operate these institutions far more efficiently as direct stakeholders. Therefore, these initiatives promise a brighter future for both the airline and the broader economy.
