KARACHI: Karachi police have arrested a man accused of hacking women’s mobile phones and blackmailing them with stolen data. Officers identified the suspect as Sameer alias PK, who was detained by Eidgah Police.
Police acted after receiving several complaints from distressed victims.
Investigators said the suspect dropped out of school after seventh grade. They said he was unemployed and living in Karachi at the time of the crimes. He allegedly bought a hacking link for Rs5,000 from a man based in Lahore.
Police said he used the link across several social media platforms to access women’s devices.
Investigators Reveal Disturbing Methods
According to police, the suspect learned hacking techniques through online groups.
He allegedly used the link to infiltrate accounts and extract private data. Officers said he stole photos, videos and other sensitive information from victims. They said he then used the stolen material to blackmail the women repeatedly.
Sameer confessed to coercing at least four women into recording explicit videos. Police said he stored the explicit videos and other data on his phone and laptop. Investigators said they recovered hundreds of obscene videos from his devices. They also claimed he attempted to lure some women into prostitution for money.
Victims Helped Police Capture the Suspect
One woman said the suspect sent her photos of her daughter during the blackmail. She told officers the threats caused immense fear and emotional distress. Her family later devised a plan to trap the suspect.
They called him to Ranchore Line on November 17 to confront him. Family members then caught him on the spot and handed him to police. Investigators said the suspect even threatened the woman and her family afterward.
Authorities Launch Expanded Investigation
Police registered a case under the Telegraph Act after the arrest. Given the severity of the offences, the DIG South formed a special investigation team. Officers said the case requires detailed digital analysis and expert assistance.
Police wrote to the FIA Cybercrime Wing seeking technical support and forensic help.
They requested data recovery and nomination of an officer to assist victims.
