ISLAMABAD: Punjabโs Provincial Disaster Management Authority has forecast heavy rain and snowfall in Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas over the next 48 hours, warning that wet weather conditions may persist until January 23.
According to the PDMA, snowfall is expected in Murree and nearby hill stations during the coming days, which could affect road conditions and tourist movement. As a precaution, the authority has put emergency arrangements in place to manage the anticipated influx of visitors and any weather-related disruptions.
Facilitation centres, alerts issued
The PDMA director general said 13 facilitation centres have been established in Murree to assist tourists during the expected spell of severe weather. These centres will provide guidance, support and emergency assistance as required.
Tourists have been advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling to hill stations in order to avoid emergencies and inconvenience.
Meanwhile, Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert, stating that the provincial administration would stay vigilant around the clock. He said district administrations would remain present on the ground to guide tourists and ensure their safety.
He cautioned that rainfall and snowfall could disrupt traffic flow on key roads and instructed authorities to complete advance arrangements to keep traffic moving and prevent congestion.
Citizens and tourists were advised to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.
