The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded to former captain Sana Mir’s public criticism of the domestic 50-over tournament schedule, calling her remarks “factually inaccurate” and urging responsible discourse when commenting on official matters. Mir, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), questioned the logic of holding a one-day tournament after the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, suggesting it lacked value for team development.
However, the PCB clarified that the National Women’s One-Day Tournament is part of the 2025–26 domestic season, set to take place after the World Cup and aimed at launching a new competitive cycle for Pakistan women’s cricket.
PCB Stresses Balanced Schedule and Player Welfare
A senior official from the PCB Women’s Wing stated that Mir’s remarks were “hasty” and overlooked the broader structure of the women’s cricket calendar. The board emphasized that the 50-over tournament, scheduled from November 10 to 23, 2025, in Karachi, will follow the conclusion of the Women’s World Cup co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The PCB also detailed a rigorous program in the lead-up to the World Cup, including:
- Two high-performance training camps
- An away T20I series
- A home ODI series
- A 25-day skills and fitness camp
- Multiple 50-over intra-squad practice games
The board reiterated its focus on player wellbeing and long-term planning, stating that preparation for the World Cup began months in advance.
Pakistan’s Recent Performances Highlight Structured Progress
The PCB further reminded that Pakistan women’s team went undefeated in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in April and participated in the National Women’s T20 Tournament in May, reflecting the depth and competitiveness of the current schedule.
In response to the PCB’s statement, Sana Mir posted a clarification on X, maintaining her call for constructive dialogue while reaffirming her commitment to the growth of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
