Pakistan Cricket Board officials and captain Salman Agha offered condolences to Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage. The 22-year-old lost his father, Suranga Wellalage, to a sudden heart attack while playing in the Asia Cup 2025.
PCB Officials Visit Dressing Room
Following Sri Lanka’s victory over Afghanistan in their Asia Cup Group B clash at Zayed Cricket Stadium, PCB officials visited the Sri Lankan dressing room.
Those present included white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, Chief Operating Manager Sumair Ahmed Syed, PCB advisor Salman Naseer, and team manager Naveed Akram Cheema.
Together, they consoled the young spinner, who played a key role in helping Sri Lanka qualify for the Super Four stage.
Wellalage Shares Emotional Message
After the match, Wellalage expressed his grief in an emotional Instagram post. He described the loss as the “most painful time” of his life.
He said losing his father left a void that could never be filled. However, he acknowledged the love, prayers, and support that gave him the courage to move forward.

Wellalage thanked Sri Lanka Cricket, sponsors, law enforcement, medical staff, and his former schools and clubs for their support.
