The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted its preliminary squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 to the International Cricket Council (ICC), sources confirmed on Saturday. The provisional list includes 15 players along with a set of reserve players and marks the first formal step in Pakistanโs preparations for the global tournament.
According to the sources, the PCB retains full authority to make changes to the squad until January 31. Any alterations after that date will require approval from the ICC Technical Committee, in line with tournament regulations. The final squad announcement is expected following Pakistanโs upcoming bilateral series against Sri Lanka.
Selectors are expected to closely monitor the performances of two to three players during the Sri Lanka series, which could play a decisive role in shaping the final World Cup lineup.
The management is believed to be focusing on player form, fitness, and adaptability to Sri Lankan conditions, where Pakistan will play all of its matches during the tournament.
The preliminary squad features several experienced campaigners, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf. Salman Ali Agha has been named as the T20 captain for the World Cup. Other notable inclusions are Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan, all of whom bring significant international experience to the side.
Also included in the provisional list are Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Khawaja Muhammad Nawaf, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Mirza, Saeem Ayub, Usman Khan, and Usman Tariq. The blend of established players and emerging talent reflects the PCBโs attempt to balance experience with depth ahead of the tournament.
Sources further indicated that Sri Lanka will host all of Pakistanโs matches in the T20 World Cup 2026, including potential semi-final and final fixtures. Playing in familiar subcontinental conditions is expected to influence team selection and strategy as Pakistan aims for a strong showing at the marquee event.
