PSL 11 Auction Date Finalised After Key Stakeholder Meeting
The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced the player auction date for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League. The announcement was made on Sunday after a detailed consultative workshop at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
The session was chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer also led discussions. Representatives from all eight PSL franchises attended the workshop. Senior PCB officials, PSL management, and national players were also present.
Several star cricketers took part in the session. These included top run-scorers Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. Leading wicket-takers Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi were also in attendance. Members of Pakistanโs T20 World Cup squad joined the discussions as well.
During the workshop, PSL officials briefed participants on the new auction and retention framework. Franchise owners and players were encouraged to share feedback. The goal was to ensure transparency and competitiveness in the league.
The PCB confirmed that the PSL 11 Player Auction will take place on Wednesday, February 11. The board said the date was finalised after consensus among all stakeholders.
Base Prices and Bidding Structure Revealed
The PCB also announced base prices for players ahead of the auction. These prices will guide franchises during bidding. Four base price categories have been set.
The highest base price is Rs42 million. The second category is Rs22 million. The third base price is Rs11 million. The lowest category has been set at Rs6 million.
Minimum bid increments were also disclosed. For bids under Rs11 million, the increment will be Rs250,000. For bids under Rs22 million, the increment is Rs500,000. For bids under Rs42 million, franchises must increase bids by at least Rs1 million. Bids above Rs42 million will rise in increments of Rs1.5 million.
Franchises are free to bid higher than the minimum increments. Each squad must include between 16 and 20 players. Teams can select five to seven foreign players, depending on squad size.
Each playing XI must include three to four overseas players. Squads must also include at least two uncapped Under-23 players. One Under-23 player must be part of the playing XI.
Long-Term Contracts and League Vision
Players retained or selected in PSL 11 will sign two-year contracts. Franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of seven players for PSL 12. After that, a grand auction will be held. Only five players can be retained in that phase.
Players released by franchises will return to the auction pool. Franchises will also have the option to directly sign one foreign player who did not feature in PSL 10.
The standard team purse has been set at Rs450 million. It can be extended to Rs505 million. The PCB said this flexibility will help franchises attract elite foreign players.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stressed the importance of collaboration. He said the consultative process will help shape the future of the PSL. He added that the auction model improves financial opportunities for players and strengthens competition.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer described the move as the start of a new era. He said the auction system modernises recruitment and promotes fairness. He added that fan engagement and global appeal will also improve.
The PCB said feedback from the workshop will guide a successful PSL 11 auction.
