ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the date for the auction of two new PSL franchises for the PSL 2026 season. The auction for the new HBL PSL teams will take place on 6 January 2026. The Pakistan Cricket Board described the development as a breakthrough in the league’s expansion.
The statement said the addition of two new teams would reshape the league’s commercial and sporting dynamics. It noted that the expansion would also strengthen fan engagement across Pakistan. Furthermore, the board expressed confidence that the move would boost regional representation in the country’s premier T20 tournament.
List of Shortlisted Cities Released
The PCB revealed a pool of six cities shortlisted for franchise allocation. The list includes Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit. Only successful bidders will gain the right to select one of these cities. The board emphasised that this approach ensures transparency and fairness in the selection process.
Moreover, the cities were chosen based on fan potential, infrastructure readiness, and regional significance. Officials noted that the shortlisted cities represent diverse cricketing cultures within the country. They also stated that expanding the league’s geographical base would strengthen domestic cricket structures.
Qualified Bidders to Participate
The cricket board clarified that only technically qualified bidders will be invited to the auction. This requirement ensures that only credible parties participate in the process. The PCB said the evaluation criteria would include financial strength, professional capability and long-term commitment to franchise development.
Additionally, industry observers expect strong competition among potential investors due to the league’s rising commercial value. Analysts believe the auction could attract significant interest from corporate groups seeking high-visibility sports ventures.
With the expansion of the PSL 2026 League, key stakeholders and cricket fans anticipate increased opportunities for players, sponsors and broadcasters. According to the PCB, the board would share details of bidding guidelines with interested parties ahead of the auction.
