Pakistanโs passport has been ranked 98th in the world for 2026, according to the latest Henley Passport Index, highlighting the countryโs continued struggle with global mobility. The ranking allows Pakistani citizens to travel to around 32 destinations without securing a prior visa or by obtaining a visa on arrival, placing Pakistan among the lower tiers of the global list.
The index, which evaluates passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a pre-arranged visa, serves as a widely used benchmark for international travel freedom. While the ranking reflects modest access, it also underscores the growing gap between high-performing passports and those with limited mobility.
Despite the constraints, Pakistani travelers still enjoy entry to several important destinations. These include Turkey, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates, which remain among the more popular and accessible options for tourism, business, and family visits. As a result, regional travel continues to offer some flexibility, even as broader global access remains restricted.
Mobility challenges persist amid global disparities
Experts note that passport strength often reflects a countryโs diplomatic reach, economic stability, and international relationships. Consequently, nations with stronger economies and broader visa agreements dominate the upper ranks, while developing countries face steeper barriers.
In recent years, global mobility inequality has become more pronounced, with top-ranked passports offering access to more than 180 destinations, compared to fewer than 40 for lower-ranked countries. For Pakistan, analysts suggest that improvements in governance, security perception, and international engagement could gradually enhance visa access.
Meanwhile, travelers are encouraged to stay updated on entry requirements, as visa policies can change frequently. The 2026 ranking once again highlights the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts to improve travel opportunities for Pakistani citizens worldwide.
