Multan’s Social Media Sensation Gained Fame for Asking Re1 in Fluent English
Multan – Shaukat, famously known as Pakistan’s “richest beggar,” tragically passed away following a traffic accident in Multan. The well-known local figure, who rose to internet fame due to his unique style of begging, was rushed to the hospital after the incident but succumbed to his injuries.
Shaukat became a viral sensation on social media platforms for his unusual approach to begging — asking for just Re1 in fluent English, often charming passersby with his confidence and wit. This distinct method made him a recognizable face in Multan’s Shah Jamal area, where he was frequently seen interacting with the public and even tourists.
From Street Beggar to Millionaire
Though he claimed to only ask for one rupee, Shaukat reportedly amassed millions of rupees, raising eyebrows across the country. He frequently posted bank receipts online, showing large deposits that surprised many and led to public scrutiny. His social media presence not only earned him admiration but also attracted the attention of authorities.
In 2021, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) served Shaukat multiple notices after discovering Rs1.7 million in his bank account. Investigations revealed that his children were enrolled in elite private schools, and he had reportedly purchased life insurance policies worth Rs10 million in their names. These financial details led the FBR to question his source of income and tax status.
Shaukat allegedly fled to avoid responding to the FBR inquiries. Despite this, he continued to appear in online videos, where he confidently claimed to earn Rs1,000 per day through begging and maintained a following for his transparency and charisma.
His unexpected death has sparked widespread reaction on social media, where many recalled his unusual journey from the streets of Multan to national fame. Some described him as an entrepreneur in disguise, while others debated the implications of his lifestyle and income.
