LONDON — Pakistani-born home chef Sunia Imran has won the UK National Curry Week Cook-Off 2025, earning national acclaim for her refined yet soulful take on South Asian cuisine. Judges praised her exceptional balance of flavours, technical skill, and creativity.
The prestigious event, held in London’s Covent Garden, brought together six of Britain’s top home cooks, with each round testing their creativity and composure under pressure. Sunia dominated the competition, winning four of the five rounds before clinching the title in the final cook-off.
Culinary experts from MasterChef, The Great British Menu, and top UK restaurants served as judges. “Sunia’s food reflects passion, heart, and heritage,” they said. “She delivers authenticity with elegance and confidence from start to finish.”
As the Cook-Off Champion, Sunia received a £1,000 prize, which she generously donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
By profession, Sunia works as a Senior IT Project Delivery Manager for a UK government department. Outside of work, she shares her love for home-style Pakistani cooking through popular recipe videos on social media.
Speaking to Geo News after her win, Sunia described the experience as “challenging yet deeply rewarding.” She said, “Cooking connects people and preserves culture. Winning this award is an honour, but more than that, it’s about celebrating how food brings communities together.”
Reflecting on her roots, she added, “Growing up in Lahore, our home was always filled with laughter and good food. My mother inspired my passion for cooking, and I’ve always seen food as a way to share love and memories.”
During the contest, participants were tasked with dishes such as Bombay pizza, grilled lemon chilli prawns, chicken jalfrezi, chicken malai tikka, and Rajasthani laal maas — all of which Sunia executed to perfection.
Her victory highlights not only her individual talent but also the growing global recognition of authentic Pakistani and South Asian cuisine.
