Pakistani-American lawyer Zunaira Tariq has been appointed Operations Leader, Mobility, at TikTokโs headquarters in the United States, marking a significant milestone in her distinguished international career, which spans law, public policy, and global technology firms.
In her new role, Tariq is responsible for shaping TikTokโs talent mobility and immigration strategy across key global markets. She has already played a central role in supporting the companyโs rapid expansion in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, leading complex relocation initiatives critical to TikTokโs growth in the region.
Tariq brings extensive experience in international law and corporate mobility. She earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London and later completed her Master of Laws at the University of Washington School of Law. Prior to joining TikTok, she served as a Mobility and Immigration Consultant at Microsoftโs headquarters in Seattle, where she managed global talent movement for the technology giant.
Her professional journey also includes significant public-sector work in Pakistan. She served as legal counsel for the Benazir Income Support Programme within the Ministry of Interior, contributing to major policy and governance initiatives. Zunaira Tariq also made history as the first woman to serve as Adviser to the Director-General of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), where she handled a landmark international expansion project in the United Arab Emirates.
The granddaughter of former Punjab governor Chaudhry Altaf, Tariq has consistently broken barriers in traditionally male-dominated roles. Speaking to Geo News, she credited her success to โrelentless hard work and the invaluable guidance of mentors.โ
She added that her responsibilities at TikTok include strategic planning to support international growth, acting as a strategic partner on cross-border projects, and ensuring compliance with legal and tax frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
