Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with General Sir Charles Roland Vincent Walker, Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom Army, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday.
Focus on Regional Security and Defence Collaboration
During the meeting, both military leaders discussed regional security dynamics, issues of mutual strategic interest, and ways to enhance defence cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to working closely for regional peace, stability, and long-term security collaboration.
Field Marshal Munir and General Walker agreed that the Pakistan–UK defence relationship is built on mutual trust, professional cooperation, and shared training opportunities, emphasizing the need to expand these ties further. The discussions also covered ongoing military exchanges, counterterrorism coordination, and joint efforts to ensure peace in South Asia and beyond.
UK Army Chief Praises Pakistan’s Role in Counterterrorism
General Walker commended the Pakistan Army’s sacrifices and successes in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging its significant contribution to regional peace and global counterterrorism efforts. He lauded the professionalism, discipline, and operational capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces, noting their resilience in addressing complex security challenges.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting UK army chief was presented with a guard of honour by a contingent of the Pakistan Army. He also laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument) to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service of the nation.
According to the ISPR, the high-level visit underscores the deepening defence partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom and will contribute to advancing their shared objectives of peace, security, and stability in the region.
