Pakistan’s telecom sector has reached a major milestone, with total subscriptions surpassing 200 million, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced today.
To commemorate the achievement, PTA has introduced a special one-day complimentary package for users. On June 20, all telecom subscribers will receive 2 GB of free mobile data and 200 on-net minutes, valid for 24 hours.
According to the latest statistics shared by the PTA, Pakistan now has over 197 million mobile subscribers, while broadband users have exceeded 143 million. Fixed-line telephone connections stand at approximately 3 million. Mobile network coverage currently extends to 80.30% of the country’s geographic area.
Alongside the celebration, PTA reiterated its warning to mobile users regarding SIM card security. In a recent advisory shared on Facebook, the authority urged users to ensure that their SIM cards are registered under their own names to prevent unauthorized usage.
PTA emphasized that SIM registration is a critical security measure, as stolen or misused identity information can be used to obtain illegal SIMs. Such SIMs may then be exploited for fraudulent activities, organized crime, or even terrorism.
To check how many SIM cards are registered under a CNIC, users can visit cnic.sims.pk or send their CNIC number via SMS to 668.
