ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday successfully conducted a training launch of its Fatah series surface-to-surface missile, which has a range of 120 kilometres, as part of the ongoing military exercise “Indus,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced.
This marks the second missile launch by Pakistan in recent weeks, coming amid a sharp escalation in tensions with India following New Delhi’s sweeping retaliatory measures after the Pahalgam attack, which has further strained bilateral ties.
According to ISPR, the purpose of the test was to assess the operational readiness of Pakistan’s forces and to validate key technical parameters, including the missile’s enhanced accuracy and advanced navigation system.
The launch was witnessed by senior military officials along with scientists and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic institutions. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir congratulated the personnel involved and expressed confidence in the army’s readiness and technical capabilities to defend the nation’s sovereignty.
Pakistan has alleged that India is preparing for a military operation following accusations that Islamabad was behind last month’s deadly attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed retribution, stating that those responsible would be punished “beyond their imagination.”
