Islamabad condemns “provocative and irresponsible” statements, urges New Delhi to adopt a tone befitting diplomacy
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent provocative and misleading statements made by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his address in Brussels, stating that his rhetoric is unbecoming of a senior diplomat and undermines the norms of responsible international conduct.
In an official statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan described Jaishankar’s remarks as “irresponsible and inflammatory,” asserting that they are not only factually incorrect but also run counter to the spirit of diplomacy and peaceful engagement.
“The purpose of high-level diplomatic discourse should be to promote peace and cooperation—not hostility,” Ambassador Shafqat said.
He added that Jaishankar’s tone and content “lack the dignity expected of someone in his position.” The spokesperson accused India of continuing a malicious disinformation campaign aimed at misleading the international community while ignoring its own actions and policies.
India’s Record in IIOJK Under Scrutiny
The Foreign Office reiterated that India’s hostile rhetoric is often used as a tool to deflect attention from its state-sponsored human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).
“Instead of hurling baseless accusations, India should take a hard look at its own role in promoting regional instability and its blatant human rights abuses in Kashmir,” the statement read.
Pakistan also rejected recent remarks by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly allegations regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack, calling the accusations unsubstantiated and politically motivated.
“These repeated accusations are part of a deliberate strategy to divert global attention from the grave situation in IIOJK, where India continues to suppress fundamental freedoms, detain civilians arbitrarily, and alter the region’s demographic makeup in violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention,” the spokesperson said.
Reaffirmation of Pakistan’s Stance
The Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the region remains an internationally recognized disputed territory, whose final status must be determined in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
“No amount of rhetoric or military coercion can change the legal and historical reality of Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement added.
Call for International Accountability
Pakistan called on the international community, including the United Nations and global human rights organizations, to hold India accountable for its actions in Kashmir and ensure that the Kashmiri people are allowed to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.
“While Pakistan remains committed to peace, dialogue, and diplomacy, it is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty against any act of aggression,” Ambassador Shafqat concluded.
“India’s continued anti-Pakistan rhetoric only reveals its growing frustration in the wake of failed military adventures and diplomatic isolation.”
