ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces launched a cross-border operation against militant positions along the PakistanโAfghanistan frontier in the Zhob sector, security sources said on Wednesday.
According to officials familiar with the operation, Pakistan Army units targeted two militant posts identified as Post No. 2 and Post No. 3 during the strike. The action formed part of ongoing security operations aimed at preventing cross-border militant activity in the region.
Sources said the operation forced militants stationed at the locations to abandon their positions and retreat from the area. As troops advanced, they reportedly found that the fighters had fled quickly, leaving behind equipment and weapons.
Security officials confirmed that forces seized several weapons during the raid, including Russian-made 73mm HGL-9 heavy grenade launchers that had been positioned at the militant posts.
The seized weapons are now being examined as part of ongoing security assessments.
Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq continues
Officials said the military action took place under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, an ongoing campaign aimed at neutralising militant threats near the border region.
According to security sources, the operation focuses on dismantling militant infrastructure and preventing armed groups from using border areas to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
Authorities emphasised that the operation remains active and will continue until its stated objectives are achieved.
The Zhob sector, located in Balochistan province near the Afghan border, has long been considered a sensitive security zone because of cross-border movement by armed groups.
Military officials have repeatedly stressed that Pakistan will respond decisively to any threats originating from border areas.
Meanwhile, security forces continue monitoring the region to prevent militants from re-establishing positions after the recent operation.
Officials added that intelligence-based actions remain underway to identify and eliminate remaining militant elements in the border belt.
