The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is preparing to issue 5G licenses to major telecom companies tomorrow. All arrangements for the rollout of next-generation mobile services have been finalised.
PTA officials confirmed that licenses will be granted simultaneously to the three leading telecom operators.
This move allows them to begin offering 5G services as early as Eid-ul-Fitr, with initial coverage focused on selected areas in Islamabad.
Telecom Operators Meet Licensing Requirements
Telecom companies have already submitted the required bank guarantees to the PTA. Under the license terms, each operator must provide a $15 million guarantee to meet regulatory compliance standards.
Additionally, operators are required to establish at least 1,000 new telecom sites. The license conditions also mandate ensuring network coverage in remote and underserved areas to expand nationwide connectivity.
5G Spectrum Auction Generates Significant Revenue
The PTA recently concluded a 5G spectrum auction, successfully selling 480 MHz out of 597 MHz available. The auction is expected to generate approximately $510 million in revenue for the government, boosting investment in digital infrastructure.
Officials highlighted that the licensing ceremony will include participation from key government figures, signalling strong institutional support.
Eid-ul-Fitr to Welcome High-Speed Connectivity
With licenses being issued tomorrow, telecom companies are expected to launch limited 5G services during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Initially, high-speed mobile connectivity will be available in urban areas, providing faster internet for users in Islamabad and surrounding regions.
The introduction of 5G services marks a significant step in Pakistanโs digital development.
Officials emphasize that expansion plans will continue after Eid, with gradual coverage extended to additional cities and rural areas.
Implications for Consumers and Businesses
The 5G rollout promises faster internet speeds, improved streaming quality, and reduced latency for users.
It also opens opportunities for businesses, especially in e-commerce, fintech, and tech startups, to leverage advanced connectivity.
Telecom operators are expected to promote 5G services aggressively, offering competitive plans to attract early adopters.
This initiative positions Pakistan as a growing hub for next-generation telecommunications in the region.
