ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has sought an increase in its Hajj quota from Saudi Arabia to meet growing demand. Pakistan has demanded a 230,000 Hajj pilgrims quota in 2026.
Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf shared this news with the media today. He said the government requested that other countries receive higher allocations, and Pakistan also expects an increase in its quota.
The minister explained that the government has already finalised arrangements for Hajj 2026 in accordance with Saudi guidelines. He noted that Saudi Arabia allocated a quota of 179,210 pilgrims for Pakistan this year. Of this total, authorities reserved around 118,000 seats under the government scheme, while private tour operators received the remaining allocation.
Moreover, he highlighted growing public confidence in the system. Authorities received more than 450,000 applications for Hajj registration this year, which he described as a strong indicator of trust in government management.
Government expands facilities and strengthens training
Sardar Yousaf said more than 38,000 intending pilgrims will travel from Islamabad under the Road to Makkah project, which allows immigration clearance before departure. He added that the government is working to extend this facility to Lahore. At present, pilgrims can access the service only in Islamabad and Karachi.
Meanwhile, the minister stressed the importance of proper preparation for pilgrims. He said the government has made Hajj training sessions mandatory to ensure that participants understand rituals and administrative procedures. The first phase of these training programmes will continue nationwide until February.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has prepared 22 guiding principles to simplify the performance of Hajj and improve the overall experience.
The minister also urged Khuddam-ul-Hujaj Nazims to serve pilgrims with dedication and efficiency. He assured the public that he would personally remain present in Saudi Arabia during Hajj operations to address complaints and resolve issues promptly.
