Pakistan Secures $40 Billion World Bank Loans
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday welcomed the World Bank’s landmark $40 billion commitment to Pakistan under the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for 2026–2035. He reaffirmed his government’s resolve to implement the program effectively in close coordination with provincial governments.
The prime minister shared details of Pakistan’s comprehensive reform agenda during a meeting with World Bank Group (WBG) President Ajay Banga. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
Reform agenda highlighted
Shehbaz Sharif outlined reforms focused on resource mobilisation, energy sector transformation, privatisation, and enhanced climate resilience. He stressed that these measures have already helped steer Pakistan towards macroeconomic stabilisation, restored investor confidence, and promoted sustainable growth.
The prime minister praised Ajay Banga’s leadership in making the World Bank a faster, more efficient, and impactful partner. He also acknowledged the bank’s long-standing support for Pakistan, especially during the Covid-19 crisis and the devastating 2022 floods.
World Bank’s response
Ajay Banga appreciated Pakistan’s reform efforts and reaffirmed the bank’s support for the country’s development agenda. He emphasised the bank’s readiness to assist Pakistan in advancing economic reforms and long-term climate resilience under the new CPF.

Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration to advance Pakistan’s national priorities through the framework. The $40 billion pledge represents the World Bank’s most ambitious commitment to Pakistan to date and signals a strengthened partnership for the decade ahead.
