Pakistan has resumed the Afghan Transit Trade after reaching a ceasefire understanding with the Afghan Taliban government in Doha, Qatar. Officials confirmed that operations restarted from the Chaman border crossing following a two-week suspension.
Trade Suspension Followed Border Unrest
Authorities had suspended the trade route on October 13, 2025, due to violent clashes and escalating security tensions along the Pak-Afghan border. The Directorate of Transit Trade issued fresh orders on Wednesday, detailing procedures to restore full cargo movement.
Gradual Resumption of Cargo Movement
According to the order, transit operations will restart gradually on a first-in-first-out basis after clearing stranded consignments. Around 300 vehicles were stuck at various points along the route.
First Phase of Clearance Begins
In the first phase, nine trucks turned back from the Friendship Gate will be processed. Each vehicle will undergo re-weighment and scanning, while irregularities will trigger full physical inspections inside the NLC Border Terminal.
Next Phases Cover Remaining Vehicles
The second phase includes 74 vehicles pushed back from the terminal yard in Chaman. The third phase covers 217 trucks parked in the Halting Yard, which will be cleared for cross-border movement after all checks.
Economic Relief for Traders and Transporters
The resumption is expected to ease financial strain on traders and transporters who faced losses during the closure. The Chaman border remains one of Pakistan’s busiest trade corridors, handling thousands of tonnes of essential goods weekly.
