ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has restated its steadfast commitment to the ‘One China Policy’ in response to Taiwan’s presidential election.
The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan’s position on Taiwan was unwavering, clear, and principled, considering Taiwan an integral part of the People’s Republic of China.

The statement asserted that Pakistan adheres to the One China policy and advocates for non-interference in the domestic affairs of all nations, aligning with the principles and objectives outlined in the UN Charter.
This reaffirmation of Pakistan’s stance follows the victory of William Lai Ching-te from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan’s presidential election, despite warnings from China not to support him.
Beijing, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force for reunification, responded to Lai’s win by stating that it would not alter the “inevitable trend of China’s reunification.”
In response, Lai vowed to defend Taiwan from China’s “intimidation,” and the island’s foreign ministry urged Beijing to respect the election results, face reality, and abandon efforts to suppress Taiwan.
The situation highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding Taiwan and the ongoing tensions between China and nations supporting Taiwan’s autonomy. In the past few years, numerous clashes and escalations have occurred between China and Taiwan.
